College of Engineering to establish its first Dean’s Advisory Council

The College of Engineering formed a steering committee to establish its first Dean’s Advisory Council (DAC). “The purpose of the DAC is to provide advice, advocacy, and support for the College of Engineering,” said Dr. Ahmed Khattab, Dean of Engineering. “The creation of DAC is part of the bigger vision for the College,” added Dean Khattab.

DAC will be comprised of accomplished, prominent alumni and loyal friends of the College of Engineering from industry, government, and academia who are dedicated to the advancement of engineering education, research and innovation, and workforce development. Its members will serve as ambassadors for the College of Engineering and provide unique insight, contacts, and support to help the Dean set priorities and garner additional resources necessary to bring the College to the next level of excellence.

The steering committee held its first meeting on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the UL Lafayette Alumni Center. Dr. Jaimie Hebert, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, opened the meeting and shared remarks on behalf of the University. Dr. Hebert expressed the University’s and his support for the establishment of the DAC for the College of Engineering and shared his thoughts on the DAC role in the College’s future success.  “The University supports the creation of the Dean’s Advisory Council and looks forward to its invaluable insight and assistance to Dean Khattab in bringing the college to the next level of excellence,” said Dr. Hebert. Dr. Hebert thanked the founding members for their representation of the University, saying “There is no better calling card for the University than successful alumni.”

The steering committee is chaired by Dean Khattab and composed of the DAC founding members, which include Mr. Georges Antoun, Mr. Peter Bernard, Mr. Greg Guidry and Dr. Kam Movassaghi. Also serving on the committee are Corinne Dupuy, Assistant Dean of Engineering, Rebecca Doucet, Senior Director of Development and Michelle Foreman, College of Engineering Resource Coordinator.

The founding members have been invited to serve on the DAC because of their continuous dedication and support to the College of Engineering with their time, talent, and treasure. “They are great role models of our alumni who are committed to the mission of our college,” said Dean Khattab.

The DAC Chair and the Vice Chair will be announced soon. Dean Khattab is in the process of expanding the council to its full membership and the first DAC meeting will take place in fall 2021.
