Chemical engineering graduate, Kyle Zappi, selected as the Spring 2020 University's Outstanding Graduate

Mr. Kyle Zappi has been named the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Outstanding Graduate. Selected from among eight award finalists, he will be recognized during Spring 2020 Commencement ceremonies. Earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, he will graduate with minors in Chemistry and Mathematics.

Nominated by the College of Engineering and its Interim Dean Ahmed Khattab, the award is based on leadership, scholarship and service. An Alumni Association committee interviews candidates and selects one to receive the overall award.  Kyle was also named the College of Engineering’s Outstanding Graduate.

Kyle has earned a 3.95 GPA while being very active in the college, the community, and the university.   He has been on the President’s list eight semesters. He has been volunteering his spare time from 2016 – 2020 helping at UL’s STEM Summer Camp, Holy Family Catholic School’s Science Olympiad Team, Volunteering as a caretaker for Bridgeway Hospice, Camper Counselor for the Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp, Lafayette General Medical Center’s Chemotherapy Center, the DREAMS Foundation and the Down Syndrome Association of Acadiana.

His has been a member of over 15 organizations throughout his student career.  Some of these include Honors College, Phi Kappa Phi, Omega Chi Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Alpha Lambda, the Louisiana Engineering Society, UL Preprofessional Society and Designing Leaders.

Kyle currently has two Peer-Reviewed Journal Publications and is the first author on several research posters. He is the winner of the 2017 Association of Analytical Chemists Students Poster Presentation competition and the 2017 UL Engineering and Technology Week Poster Presentation Competition and won Best Honors Presentation for Fall 2017 and Fall 2018. He is also the recipient of six scholarship to include the Phi Kappa Phi Endowed Scholarship in 2019.

Kyle plans to attend Cornell Medical College this fall for his MD with a focus on Biotechnological Surgical Research.
