Eugene M. Sellers, Sr. Endowed Scholarship in Civil Engineering

The Eugene M. Sellers, Sr. Endowed Scholarship in Civil Engineering was established by Mr. Gene Sellers, Jr. ,friends, family, business associates and the South Louisiana Mid-Winter Fair Association to honor the legacy of Mr. Euguene M. Sellers, Sr.

Eugene M. Sellers, Sr., graduated from UL Lafayette (then named Southwestern Louisiana Institute) in 1958 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Prior to earning his degree, Mr. Sellers served in the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. In 1965, Mr. Sellers, established Sellers & Associates,  Inc., a professional civil engineering, environmental engineering, structural  engineering, and land surveying services throughout South Central Louisiana and the Acadiana area. Eugene served in leadership positions with numerous civic and social organizations in the Acadiana region. He and his wife, Phallie, had five children: Mary Kathleen, Elizabeth Alverta, Euguene Marshall Jr., Susan Marie, Nathilia Ann, and numerous grandchildren.

The South Louisiana Mid-Winter Fair Association plays an integral role in the advancement of the University. Established in 1928, the South Louisiana Mid-Winter Fair Association was created out of need to assist and host livestock shows, basketball games, and civic exhibitions for what was then Southwestern Louisiana Institute. Since its inception, the Association has established and continues to support six-endowed professorships, two endowed scholarships and numerous individual scholarships, resulting in more than $1.5 million invested in meaningful support. The Eugene M. Sellers, Sr. Endowed Scholarship in Civil Engineering is just another example of the Mid-Winter Fair Association's commitment to academic excellence at UL Lafayette.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Student recipient must be admitted to the University and enrolled as a full-time student in the College of Engineering.
  2. Student recipient must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  3. Student must be classified as a junior or senior.
  4. The Donor wishes to alternate awards each academic year: the award is available to civil engineering majors in one year and open to all students with a major in the College of Engineering in the following year.
