Congratulations to faculty within the College of Engineering and the College of Sciences within the university on being awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant for the acquisition of a closed-loop physical property measurement system (PPMS) enhanced for multidisciplinary research and education at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  The award includes Principal Investigator; Dr. Gabriela Petculescu, Physics Department, and Co-Principal Investigators; Dr. Ling Fei, Chemical Engineering, Dr. Jonathan Raush, Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Carl Richter, School of Geosciences and Dr. Michalis Charilaou, Physics Department.

The project is a multi-effort, multi-department, multi-college, and multi-institution effort and includes UL Lafayette’s Engineering Department, Physics Department, Chemistry Department and the School of Geosciences as well as the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division, LSU, Montana State University, the University of Texas, Dallas and Louisiana Tech.

Dr. Xiao-Dong, Director for The Institute for Materials Research and Innovation (IMRI), will provide the maintenance and space for the instrument in the multi-user focused research area of the center. This is one more example of how collaborations across colleges have helped to facilitate growing materials research at UL Lafayette.

The PPMS is a versatile measurement platform with customizable capabilities to measure a wide range of material and device properties.
