Terry Huval, P.E.

BS Electrical Engineering – 1978
Director – Lafayette Utilities System

Raised in Breaux Bridge, LA, Terry did not plan to attend college after high school. Encouraged by family and friends, he majored in Electrical Engineering at USL (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette), where he was honored as the university’s Outstanding Male Graduate.

After 16 years with Gulf States Utilities/Entergy, Terry was appointed as Director of Lafayette Utilities System (LUS), the city-owned electric, water and wastewater services provider. During his tenure, the utility experienced significant growth. Most notable was his leadership in envisioning and deploying the successful LUS Fiber telecommunications project, which has garnered worldwide attention for Lafayette. He also has been instrumental in moving the city forward with numerous novel engineering projects involving energy production and advanced water/wastewater management.

As a leader in the electric power industry, Terry was elected as Board Chair for the American Public Power Association in Washington, D.C., and has the distinction of being the only Louisianan to serve in that position. He also served on the boards of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Acadiana and the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying (LAPELS) board. A true Cajun at heart, Terry is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who has been inducted into the Cajun Music Hall of Fame, the Louisiana Folklife Center’s “Hall of Master Folk Artists” and the “Order of Living Legends”.
