Luke Everett & Dolores B. Fontenot Endowed Scholarship in Chemical Engineering

Luke Everett Fontenot is a native of Grand Prairie, Louisiana in St. Landry Parish.  He attended and graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1948.

On Sept. 11, 1950, during the Korean Conflict, Luke Everett enlisted in the U.S. Navy. His tour lasted four years. Upon returning home, he worked in the chemical industry. It was during this employment that he made the decision to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering at U.S.L. (now UL Lafayette). He graduated from U.S.L. in 1961. After graduation, Luke Everett was employed in the chemical and paper industry until 1976, when he became co-owner of a polymer plant. The plant was sold in 1982. In 1992, Luke Everett became owner and president of Polymer Research Corporation, which is located in Centreville, Mississippi.

Dolores Brown Fontenot was born in Grand Prairie, Louisiana. She is a 1950 graduate of the Academyof lmmaculate Conception in Opelousas, Louisiana. Dolores is a 1954 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. During her career, she was employed in various areas of nursing.

Because of their sincere and profound respect for education, Luke Everett and Dolores have pursued and established this endowed scholarship in the Chemical Engineering Department.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Must be President of the student chapter of AIChE
  2. Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
