Fletcher-Elliott Endowed Engineering Scholarship

Lorraine Fletcher Elliott is the daughter of Dr. Joel Fletcher, the third president of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette who served from 1941 to 1966. When establishing this scholarship, she wrote:

Knowing how important a college education is, I realize some young people need financial help and encouragement. I remember how many students at SLI were encouraged to continue college by my father creating jobs for them, and how years later they were thanking him. One of his favorite threats was "If you don’t get a college education, you might end up working in a steam laundry.” Can you think of anything worse in humid Louisiana?
