David S. Huval, Sr., P.E., P.L.S.

After graduating from UL Lafayette (USL), David began his career with the Federal Highway Administration serving from 1961 to 1966. He worked on a wide range of projects from California to Washington, D.C., to Little Rock, giving him a breadth of experience.

With a strong desire to return to Louisiana, David worked in the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s Bridge Design Section from 1965 to 1978. In 1970, he was promoted to bridge design engineer. During his tenure at DOTD, he designed and managed numerous major bridge projects, including the I-10 Atchafalaya Floodway Crossing and the I-310 Mississippi River Bridge at Luling.

Following Huval’s successful stint with the Department of Transportation and Development, he returned to Lafayette and founded Huval & Associates, Inc. and C.E.C., Inc. Through his work, he became an industry leader in the design, construction, and rehabilitation of major bridges, including the LA 1 Bridge from Leeville to Fourchon, the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway West Closure Complex, and the I-10 Mississippi River Bridge in Baton Rouge.

Throughout his career, David has remained active in professional organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers, Louisiana Engineering Society, American Council of Engineering Companies – Louisiana, the Associated General Contractors, and the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. For David, bridge engineering is more than a profession; it is his life’s passion.
