Scott grew up in Lafayette and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering from UL Lafayette (USL) in 1987. He started his career at Bell Northern Research (part of Northern Telecom) in Richardson, Texas, where he did software support for large phone switching systems and worked his way up to architect of wireless switching systems. After Bell Northern Research, Scott joined a startup company in Memphis, Tenn., providing wireless switching systems to developing countries.

After the company was sold, Scott along with his business partner, started BroadSoft in Gaithersburg, Md., with a goal of providing next generation voice-over-IP solutions for global service providers. His responsibilities included product strategy, product management, product marketing, engineering, professional services, support, customer success, information technology and information systems.

BroadSoft went public in 2010, listed on NASDAQ, and was one of the most successful technology IPOs of the year. In 2017, BroadSoft was sold to Cisco Systems for $1.9 billion. At Cisco, Scott was general manager for cloud calling, responsible for $400 million in revenue, a $200 million operating budget and 1,200 employees, including 10 engineers from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

With over 20 years at BroadSoft, he ran product strategy, product management, development, cloud operations, support, and customer success for BroadSoft’s flagship products - BroadWorks and BroadCloud.

Scott later founded True North Advisory with four partners to help entrepreneurs scale and grow their businesses. The core team worked together at BroadSoft.

Scott was inducted into the UL Lafayette Engineering Alumni Wall of Honor in 2019. He and his wife, Donna, also a UL Lafayette alumna, live in Bethesda, Maryland.
