The College of Engineering is excited to announce that Greg and Alexis Guidry have committed $1.6 million to the College of Engineering to help reimagine how students learn and prepare for the global workforce. Their investment supports new facilities, innovative programs, and world-class faculty dedicated to bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.

The Guidry’s three-part gift establishes the Greg Guidry Energy Systems Lab for hands-on technical training, supports the Engineering Center of Excellence (ECoE) to connect education with industry needs, and creates the Greg Guidry Engineering Innovation Endowed Chair, with anticipated matching funds from the Louisiana Board of Regents.

“We are disrupting the traditional engineering education model to close the skills gap between the classroom and the workplace,” said Greg Guidry, a 1982 mechanical engineering graduate and retired Shell executive. “Critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and cultural awareness are essential for success in today’s global economy.”

Dr. Ahmed Khattab, dean of the College of Engineering, praised the couple’s forward-thinking commitment. “Greg and Alexis Guidry are visionary partners,” he said. “Their investment strengthens our mission and inspires others to join us in shaping a bold, innovative future for engineering at UL Lafayette.”

Guidry, who serves as chair of the College’s Dean’s Advisory Council, also shares his global industry experience with students and faculty. He encourages fellow alumni to reconnect with the College: “Visit and see how far it’s come—you’ll be impressed. Whether through time, talent, or treasure, there’s an opportunity to make a difference.”
