The College of Engineering is on the fast track to greater success, that was the theme of the fall 2022 Dean’s Advisory Council (DAC) meeting on Friday November 4, 2022.  Chaired by Mr. Georges Antoun, and vice chaired by Mr. Greg Guidry, the DAC welcomed its newest member Mr. Scott Hoffpauir, 1987 electrical engineering graduate, Founder and Managing Partner for TrueNorth 2.0, increasing the board to 11 members.

Beginning its second year, the DAC is very active.  The Makerspace subcommittee, co-chaired by Thomas Chance and Yasmeen Qudsi, reported on its findings after reviewing best practices in several states and universities, including MIT, Harvard University, Rice University, and others. A new Building Fundraising subcommittee was created to assist the college in its comprehensive building campaign goals.  A group discussion on moving forward and building tomorrow’s workforce brought valuable industry insight to closing the skills gap in engineering.

DAC members enjoyed lunch and discussions with Dr. Joseph Savoie, President of the University, and the College’s Fall 2022 outstanding graduate as well as the mechanical engineering solar boat team.  Dr. Jaimie Hebert, Provost, joined the DAC for breakfast along with the engineering department’s Fall 2022 outstanding graduates.

Dr. Ahmed Khattab, Dean of the College of Engineering, presented an update on the college’s numbers and recent achievements to the council.  This included a new department, Engineering Technology along with a new degree, Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Technology Management.  Six new undergraduate concentrations and one new graduate concentration:

BS in Chemical Engineering with a Bioengineering concentration
BS in Civil Engineering with a Water Resources & Environmental Engineering concentration
BS in Electrical Engineering with a Secure Smart Systems concentration
BS in Mechanical Engineering with an Autonomous & Robotic Systems concentration
BS in Mechanical Engineering with a Sustainable Energy Systems concentration
BS in Petroleum Engineering with a Smart Oilfield concentration

MS in Engineering with an Engineering Management concentration

We have a bold vision: engineering a strong, smart, sustainable future.  Together, we innovate!
