The project, entitled “OneTConnect: A Wearable Telehealth Solution for Psychiatric Patient Care,” is funded by OneTeleMed, a local telepsychiatry service provider for psychiatric patients, will develop system design, architecture, and a functional prototype of the OneTConnect.

The project involves an interdisciplinary team of researchers to develop a prototype of smart wearable telehealth solution for care providers to monitor psychiatric patients' health parameters remotely while also having the ability to communicate with the doctor. The physiological data are collected through various sensory systems that will be embedded directly on the wearable.

Led by Dr. Raju Gottumukkala, Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor, this collaborative project is a partnership between the College of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering Department), the Center for Advanced Computer Studies (CACS), the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, the Informatics Research Institute and Haltian Ltd. In addition, a team of senior design engineers from Mechanical engineering will help with some of the design aspects of the wearable.

The prototype device for OneTeleMed will eventually be developed for FDA approval. The project outcomes will benefit patients requiring mental health services through telemedicine, especially the patients living in rural areas where there are limited services.
Congratulations to Dr. Gottumukkala, Dr. Ziad Ashka, Louisiana Center for Health Innovation, (LCHI) Director and Professor, College of Nursing and Allied Health Profession, and Dr. M. Hassan Najafi, Assistant Professor, School of Computing and Informatics, on your project!
