2008 Electrical Engineering Graduate, Jason Moesta, Instructs NASA's International Space Station Astronaut Corps

Since graduating in 2008, Jason Moesta has been working as a flight controller and instructor for NASA's International Space Station (ISS) Program. During the past two years, Jason has trained Expedition 47 Crew Members Tim Kopra, Tim Peake, and Yuri Malenchenko in ISS Electrical and Thermal Systems. Crew members were taught how to safely operate the equipment, and perform Failure Response actions should a system fail.
On January 15, 2016, Jason worked with Tim Kopra and Tim Peake during the US Extra Vehicular Activity (EVA) 35 Spacewalk to replace the Channel 1B Sequential Shunt Unit (SSU) voltage regulator. Jason supported the EVA from Mission Control Center in Houston by sending commands to the ISS throughout the EVA. These commands initiated functions such as positioning the solar arrays, the radiators, and removing power from the SSU to allow for safe replacement.
Jason would like to thank the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, specifically the College of Engineering, for the outstanding education he received. Jason highly recommends joining the Cajun Advanced Pico-Satellite Experiment program, or CAPE, which was instrumental in teaching Jason many useful skills such as leadership and management.
