Dr. Emad Habib receives 2022 Leadership Service Award

It is with great pride that we announce, Dr. Emad Habib as the University's 2022 recipient of the Leadership Service Award.  Dr. Emad Habib is the Theriot Endowed Chair in Civil Engineering. He directs the University’s Louisiana Watershed Flood Center and is interim director of its Institute for Coastal and Water Research. He was Researcher of the Year for the College of Engineering in 2021.

Each year the UL Lafayette Foundation's Leadership Service Award honors faculty members who combine service learning with classroom instruction to forge skills and knowledge that students can apply to community leadership opportunities.

“Dr. Habib has a deep passion for his area in civil engineering. He is always focused and looking for the best solution,” said Dr. McManis, Department Head of Civil Engineering. “He works with communities and involves his students allowing them real-world experiences. He has developed resources available to the community and he incorporates his research into the classroom giving our students first-hand knowledge and experience,” continued McManis.

Dr. Habib’s research in flood prediction and mitigation, and water and climate sustainability has been widely recognized. He earned the UL Lafayette Foundation’s Distinguished Professor Award in 2016. Dr. Habib serves as a prime example of what this award represents.  His work has supported leaders of our community and their economic and community development missions. His is an excellent example of one who gives back, offering his expertise on a local, regional, state, and national level.
