Electrical and Computer Engineering Students Recognize CAPE Sponsors

On Thursday, March 20, 2008, engineering students involved in the Cajun Advanced Picosatellite Experiment, affectionately known as “CAPE,” hosted a brief ceremony to acknowledge corporate sponsors of the first CAPE satellite. Also on hand for the event, which was held at the UL Alumni House, were President Ray Authement; Mr. Nick Pugh, mentor and advocate of the project; alumni who worked on CAPE I ( which is now orbiting on a Russian space craft); faculty of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, and Mark Zappi, Dean of Engineering. The students were capable hosts, giving a project presentation slideshow, recognizing “new” and “old” team members, and presenting industry sponsors with plaques recognizing their contributions to the project.

Even as CAPE I orbits the earth, transmitting Morse code messages to listeners around the world, the students are heavily involved in work on CAPE II. For more information on the CAPE project refer to the CAPE webpage, www.ulcape.org or contact the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UL, http://ee.louisiana.edu/
